Woo Hoo Almost 10,000

Hello folks!!

Time to finally update this thing!! I am very, very ,close to getting 10,000 page views!!! So anyone who catches it (with a screen capture or whatever)will get a free sketch!! So let the games begin!!

Journal

The quest goes well with breaking into the Children's book arena. I recently had two educational books published. Which is awesome! I didn't really know how many different fields the children's book world is divided into. So gearing my artwork for the specific industry I want to work in is playing a huge factor in how I'm building my portfolio.

I recently joined The Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators. [link] I also recntly got a page over on JacketFlap [link] Which I really need to explore a lot more. There are a number of conventions coming up that I need to prepare for as well. I also recently joined an online critique group specifically for thsoe interested in the Children's book field. I may also start one of my own, you can never get too much advice and insight from others. Let me know if any of you would be interested in participating in a critique group of this nature! I also want to start an in-person critique group for the West Florida area. Let mw know if anyone is interested in that as well!! Their's a lot of work ahead, but I am psyched to be working in this direction!!

Thanks to all my Deviant watchers who critique my artwork and give me insight into the things I need to improve upon! I take it all very seriously. Especially when I am told things that I really don't want to hear! The truth hurts sometimes. But I thank you all for your input! I'll have my website up in the next month or so and I'll be blogging more as things go along.

Heya guys! Below is an opporunity to get featured on my page. Very soon I will be posting up a poll to get you guys to vote on my sketches. Which one you like the best and most want to see colored. It's a new year folks...well almost..and another chance to get things on the right path! Now if only I could figure out what that path is...sigh.

OK, Definitely progressing towards my goal(s). I need ten-fifteen pieces for my portfolio for Children's books. At this point I have around seven. Still not all that impressed(personally) with what I have yet.

Pushing my boundaries is definitely called for. Also figuring out ways to speed up my process would be helpful! (I guess it would help if I actually had a definitive process.) A number of folks on DA post tutorials on how they go about doing what they do. In my experience at my day job, coming up with a tutorial on how you do your process can actually help solidify what it is that you do. More often than not most of us don't think we have a process, when we really do. Forcing yourself to write it out and explain it so that others could follow it can help reveal what it is.

So definitely look for some of that in the future. I plan on starting out with basics on my process from beginning to end and then create some that are for more specific individual things.
